Wandsworth Town

Wandsworth Mills: a new waterside neighbourhood

Leading London developer St George, part of Berkeley Group, has now launched Wandsworth Mills – a striking new development on the banks of the River Wandle, tributary to the River Thames, where history and modernity combine and where wellness takes centre stage. All of this is located in one of London’s greenest, most loved and most culturally rich boroughs.

The 3.4-acre Wandsworth Mills development includes 375 new homes of exceptional quality, an expansive club-style resident retreat and the beautifully restored Grade II listed stables building, set amongst landscaped open spaces including sunken gardens, roof terraces, new pedestrian bridges and 210 metres of enhanced riverside frontage. The Surrey Iron Railway, a horse-drawn plateway that linked Wandsworth to parts of Surrey in the 18th century, is also celebrated in the design, with 310 yards of sleeper stones from the original railway being sensitively repurposed within the development.

At the heart of Wandsworth Mills stands The Artisan Tower, a striking 34-storey architectural landmark forming a bold new beacon for Wandsworth. Comprising 166 beautifully appointed Manhattan, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, the tower offers a range of unique homes to suit differing lifestyles owing to its bold and innovative design.

The homes within The Artisan Tower are spacious, light-filled and contemporary, while expansive balconies – including dual balconies to some homes – offer far reaching views across the capital. There is a high specification throughout inspired by the site’s historic weaving mills and heritage, with finishes including brushed brass and dark bronze fittings, fluted cabinetry in the kitchens and bedrooms and fluted glass in the bathrooms.

Health and wellbeing are central to the vision for Wandsworth Mills, with The Retreat providing exclusive residents’ facilities spanning over 15,000 sq ft across three floors at the base of the tower, with each aspect meticulously planned and designed, drawing on decades of experience and customer insights to create a captivating environment for mind, body and soul. This reflects a forward-thinking approach to design and development that considers how people want to live and relax today.

Residents can enjoy the Aqua Sanctuary, a remarkable 8m high oasis with a central organic shaped pool, tropical trees and secluded snug seating areas including elevated tree houses. A water feature and mature planting throughout create a space truly at one with nature, which is neatly complemented by a luxury thermal spa with wellness pools, snow room, ice fountain, steam room, sauna and a fully equipped gym. 24-hour concierge provides total peace of mind and convenience, alongside an elegant lounge, bar, private dining room, library and two state-of-the-art screening rooms.

Marcus Blake, Managing Director, St George PLC, comments: “We are incredibly excited to be breathing new life into this historic site, rejuvenating over 200 metres of the River Wandle and creating 2,000 square metres of landscaped public space, alongside beautiful new homes. The project builds on our enviable track record and legacy working in Wandsworth, following the success of past developments.”

The area has always been synonymous with artisan crafts, from the early Huguenot settlers who established an international reputation for quality weaving and dyeing, to William Morris who had a studio nearby and the Arts & Crafts movement which became known for producing world-famous fabrics and prints.

This was followed by the arrival of Liberty London’s block printing workshop nearby, and today, the theme continues through the very fabric of Wandsworth Mills, where quality craftsmanship and attention to detail are found throughout.

Wandsworth Town has long been celebrated for its village-like appeal and exceptional quality of life, bordered by Putney, Clapham and Battersea, and across the River Thames from Chelsea and Fulham. On the doorstep of the development, residents can enjoy the best of South West London living. This includes easy access to 1,700 acres of green spaces and riverside walks within two miles of the development, including the 171-acre Wandsworth Common and Wandsworth Park, an ever-evolving array of independent cafes, boutiques and restaurants, including at the nearby Ram Quarter.

The area’s educational credentials are exceptional as a renowned place to learn and flourish; Wandsworth ranks among the top 10 boroughs for a number of primary schools rated Outstanding by Ofsted. There are several leading independent primary and secondary schools nearby, including Thomas’s Battersea, as well as easy access to private/boarding schools including Harrow and Eton College and leading universities such as the University of Roehampton and Kingston University.

The area also buzzes with an eclectic mix of artists and creators, cultural venues and hubs including Battersea Arts Centre, Kristen Hjellegjerde Gallery and Putney Arts Theatre, with Wandsworth recently selected as the London Borough of Culture for 2025.
