Black History Month at Southside

Southside Shopping Centre, in the heart of Wandsworth Town, is celebrating Black History Month this October under the theme of 'Celebrating Our Communities'.

Leading the celebrations is the powerful photography exhibition S.M.I.L.E-ing Boys & Girls by artist Kay Rufai.

Kay spent time with some of the Black students at Ark Putney Academy, exploring themes of identity and mental wellbeing. The exhibition is the product of that work and it's available to view throughout October on the ground floor of the shopping centre.

Don't forget to scan the QR codes beside the images to see and hear what the young people had to say about their participation in the programme.

You can also shop unique gifts and products from local, independent Black-owned businesses at the Black Culture Market at Southside.

And, on Saturday 17 October, Pointe Black Ltd - a non-profit, community ballet company - will be performing 'Evergreen' from 1pm and 4pm, blending African and Caribbean influences with classical ballet.
