Spotlight: Mind, Old York Road

Mind, the mental health charity, operates a shop on Old York Road and it’s frequently stocked with incredible, pre-loved high-end goods. We caught up with Cassia at the shop to find out more about Mind’s services and how we can rally together to support them in their mission to make support accessible.

Tell us who you are and what you do.

I’m Cassia and I work at Mind’s Old York Road shop.

Mind is an organization based in the UK that helps people who have mental health problems. We provide various services, like a helpline, online resources, and local support groups.

Our objective is to improve the lives of people who face mental health problems and increase awareness and understanding of these issues. Mind also advocates for better mental health services and fights to decrease the discrimination surrounding mental health.

In summary, Mind is a vital resource for individuals who are dealing with mental health issues or want to learn more about them.

What donations do you need most at the moment?

Currently, in Old York Road, we need ladies’ and men’s clothes. Especially men. We also need shoes and accessories.

Have you had any peculiar donations yet?

Recently we got a Ukulele.  A ukulele is a small, four-stringed musical instrument that originated in Portugal and was popularised in Hawaii. It is similar in appearance to a guitar but much smaller and easier to play. The ukulele is known for its bright, cheerful sound and is often used in traditional Hawaiian music and pop, rock, and folk music. It is a popular instrument for beginners due to its compact size and relatively simple chord structures.

What are some of your best-sellers?

Kate Spade bags are an absolute smash in the shop. We also sell a lot of ladies’ tops.

Where can people go to access advice and information on supporting their mental wellbeing?

Our website is filled with information and advice to help you seek the right support, including an Infoline and Legal line.

You can also find guidance on the spectrum of mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression, as well as tips on everyday living, how to support a loved one, and information for young people.

What can we do as a community to support Mind?

As a community, there are many ways we can support Mind. You can start by spreading awareness about mental health and the resources that are available to those who need them.

Additionally, you can volunteer your time or donate to mental health organizations to help provide much-needed support to those struggling with mental health issues.

Together, we can help make a difference in the lives of those affected by mental health challenges.

What do you do to unwind and feel calm?

I usually like to take a long walk in nature or read a good book. Sometimes I’ll listen to calming music or do some gentle stretches. It really helps me to clear my mind and feel more relaxed.
