Did you know that there’s a local brand producing delicious English rosé? Meet Dancing Duchess.
We caught up with founders Allie and Archie to find out more.
Glass of wine, anyone?
What’s the story behind Dancing Duchess?
Allie: Dancing Duchess was founded by two friends who shared a love of English wine and wanted to create something a little different on the English wine scene. We work with fantastic producers in Kent to make our small batches of English sparkling rosé. Our first vintage was just 1,000 bottles, so it’s very much a boutique project driven by passion, creativity and a lot of enthusiasm.
Where did the name come from?
Allie: We wanted a name that captured a sense of fun, elegance and personality. “Dancing Duchess” felt like the perfect balance of refinement and playfulness, which is exactly how we think sparkling rosé should feel. Wine doesn’t need to be intimidating. It should make people smile.
Tell us about your signature rosé.
Archie: Our signature wine is an English sparkling rosé made from 100% Pinot Meunier grapes grown in Kent and produced using the traditional method. It’s fresh and elegant with notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and a hint of citrus, balanced by crisp English acidity and fine bubbles. It’s a rosé with structure, but still incredibly drinkable.
If your rosé were a song, what would it be?
Allie: Something joyful and celebratory. Probably “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. It’s fun, a little glamorous, and impossible not to smile when it comes on.
Is rosé more of a brunch, lunch or dinner beverage?
Archie: All of the above. Sparkling rosé is surprisingly versatile. It’s perfect for brunch, brilliant with a long lunch, and elegant enough to open at dinner. If we had to choose though, we’d say it really shines at those relaxed, slightly celebratory lunches that melt into the afternoon.
What’s your perfect food and rosé pairing?
Archie: Rosé loves food. Some favourites are seafood, fresh salads, charcuterie and soft cheeses. The bright acidity and bubbles make it incredibly food friendly.
Do you host events?
Allie: Yes. We love bringing the wine to life through tastings and events. We host small tastings, private events and collaborations with local businesses, and we’re always interested in creative partnerships.
Where can we shop?
Archie: You can buy directly from us online, with delivery across the UK. We also occasionally pop up at tastings and local events, which we announce on social media.
What’s your favourite thing about Wandsworth?
Allie: Wandsworth has such a great mix of community, independent businesses and green spaces. It’s one of those places where people really support local brands, which makes it a wonderful place for small businesses to grow.
