Spotlight: Pour Decisions

If you were going to name a wine-tasting events company anything, then Pour Decisions is a cracking title. And where wine tasting was once seen as a hobby of the elite, Pour Decisions is making it fun and accessible for all (who are of legal drinking age of course).

We caught up with Pour Decisions’ founder Laura to find out more about her events as well as whether an “I hate wine” person really become a fan, and what wine pairs best with Morley’s fried chicken.

How did Pour Decisions come about?

Pour Decisions was born out of a simple idea: wine tasting should be fun, not intimidating. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion, leading me to complete my WSET training and exams. Along the way, I realised that while many people love the idea of wine tasting, the learning side can sometimes feel a bit daunting.

Pour Decisions was created to change that, combining wine education with entertainment to create fun tasting experiences that are relaxed, playful, and always centred around great wine.

Tell us about your events.

Pour Decisions hosts fun, accessible wine tasting events across London that are designed to be relaxed and social. Each tasting is led by me, a certified WSET sommelier and is fully curated with a selection of wines, tasting notes, and an interactive quiz.

Whether it’s birthdays, team nights, or just because, Pour Decisions creates a tasting experience that’s playful and completely unpretentious.

How do we book?

Just send a DM on Instagram @pour_decisions_wine or email [email protected] with a few details:

What has surprised you most about running a wine tasting business?

How quickly people go from “I don’t really know anything about wine” to confidently swirling their glass and debating tannins and aromas. Give someone two glasses side by side, and suddenly they’ve found their favourite tipple. It’s great to see.

Have you ever managed to convert a “I hate wine” person into a fan?

All the time! Most people who say they hate wine have just been introduced to the wrong one. Once they find a style that suits them, there’s usually a moment where their eyes light up and they go, “Wait… this is actually good.” That’s the best part of learning about wine, it’s all very subjective.

What’s a great tasting and affordable wine that you’d recommend right now?

If you’re after something a little under the radar, I’d suggest Eastern European reds. At each event, I love to feature hidden gems from lesser-known regions that produce exceptional quality at a great price point. Two of my favourites are Doldora from Moldova and Olterra Dragasani from Romania.

OK, pop quiz. You’ve had a bad day at work and you’re craving a dirty takeout when you get home, what wine are you pairing with it?

I love pairing Morley’s crispy fried chicken with a cold glass of fizz. The lively bubbles and crisp acidity slice right through the salty, crunchy goodness, making it a perfect pairing.

If you could only drink wine from one country for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

France. It’s the boring sommelier answer, but it’s true. You’ve got Champagne for celebrations, Burgundy for elegance, Rhône for power, Bordeaux for classics, you’d never get bored.

Cork or screw cap?

Both! It’s a common misconception that screw caps can alter the style of the wine. Corks have a more traditional and romantic experience but there’s no real difference in quality.

Finish this sentence: Wine tasting should always include..
…good company, fun, and at least one bottle that completely surprises you.
