A month-long exhibition celebrating ‘Queer Wandsworth’ has opened at Wandsworth Town Library for LGBTQ+ History Month.
Queer lives have always been part of the fabric of Wandsworth, from everyday citizens facing prejudice and criminalisation to queer artists and performers.
Queer Wandsworth brings together fragments of these lives through objects, photographs, film, recorded voices, print culture and archival material. From performance and drag traditions rooted in music hall culture, to Pride events, queer nightlife in the borough, activist campaigns and fundraising, these materials show how people expressed identity, built visibility and created community in public and private spaces.
Alongside historic material, the exhibition at BAC includes a contemporary commission by artist Luca Bosani, responding to three stories from Wandsworth’s queer past. By grounding these histories in real places and lived lives, Queer Wandsworth invites you to see the borough as a landscape shaped by connection, courage and imagination.
This exhibition is divided into two spaces: Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) and Wandsworth Town Library. Please check for individual venue opening times.
