Spotlight: The Purple Owl

Wandsworth’s hottest new creative space has arrived, offering something for everyone, in a relaxed, welcoming and sociable atmosphere. Meet The Purple Owl.

We caught up with Tyler Fowler to find out more.

What’s the story behind The Purple Owl?

The Purple Owl was born from a love of art and community. At this present point, there are not many physical third spaces in London that reflect the changing landscape of the everyday Londoner – adaptative styles of working, decline in cultural engagement and lack of spaces with a community focus.

At its heart, The Purple Owl hopes to be a space to engage with the arts, showcase talent and serve the local community and beyond regardless of ages and background – there is something for everyone.

We offer clay modelling, and t-shirt, canvas and pottery painting.

Why Wandsworth?

There are many venues that host similar experiences across London but none for SW London.

One of the owners spent some of his formative years here and loved how strong of a community feel the area has.  When the listing came, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to give back.

It is important to have our first venue situated in an area that embodies the spirit of community but also is easily accessible to other boroughs, too.

What have you got coming up?

Lots of live music appearances, artist workshops – including a multi week ceramic workshop and other activities outside of what we offer daily – and special seasonal events. Be sure to keep an eye on our socials!

What would you say to someone new to the area who’s curious about The Purple Owl?

Come and have a chat with our team – we want to get to know you and what you think!

Tell us about your food and drink options.

We have a wide variety of foods and drinks available throughout the day. From coffees, toasted sandwiches and pastries to cocktails, wines and beers –  there is something for everyone here!

We have just finalised our party food and dinner menus and we cannot wait to share it with you! Expect a selection of charcuterie, flatbreads and more.

What’s your favourite cocktail?

Basil Smash – fresh, not too sweet and great for any occasion. It’s a drink I hadn’t heard of before starting here and it’s definitely on my favourites list.

What have your customers said so far?

They love that the space has so much potential and they’re excited for what we become. It’s been nothing but good things so far.

It’s also just lovely to see people who have stayed for longer than they expected after coming in for a chat.

If you had to choose – live music or creative session?

Personally, my favourite nights so far have been when customers start off with an art experience, then engage in the social night life we have to offer after.

We recently had a multi-art experience birthday party, that ended with the guests (and some staff) singing karaoke through till close – every night brings something different here!

Describe The Purple Owl in just three words.
