Making Wandsworth Town a clean, green and sustainable district of South West London is a key objective for Wandsworth Town BID.
Refill Wandsworth Town
To help local businesses be more sustainable, we have partnered with City to Sea to launch Refill Wandsworth Town. Businesses in the town centre can register as a Refill Station, providing fresh tap water to anyone who wants to top-up their reusable water bottles. This not only helps people stay healthy and hydrated, but also decreases the amount of single-use plastic produced in the area, keeping Wandsworth Town’s parks, streets, and even the River Wandle, clean.
Drinking Fountains
We worked with the Mayor of London to bring drinking fountains to Wandsworth Town. The fountains, maintained by Thames Water, are located by Wandsworth Town Station and on Garratt Lane outside the Old Burial Ground. Don’t forget to top-up your reusable bottle as you go!
Green Spaces
Wandsworth is the greenest borough in London. We have planted new trees to help reduce CO2 emissions in the town centre. By investing in local parks, we hope to make Wandsworth Town a greener neighbourhood that encourages people to make use of their local green spaces.
Street Cleaning
We want to ensure that Wandsworth Town looks its best at all times. To assist with this, we have partnered with CC Infrastructure Services to provide additional street cleaning and graffiti removal in the town centre. This helps prevent rubbish entering the River Wandle and stops plastics entering the oceans and harming plants and wildlife. If you spot any businesses areas in the town centre that could do with some TLC, please reach out and we’ll notify the cleaning team to tackle it on their next visit.
Pedestrianising Wandsworth Town
Old York Road was pedestrianised following consultation to help make the area safer and cleaner, and encourage more people to commute via bike.
We’re also working with Wandsworth Borough Council to monitor local air quality and look at ways we can reduce air pollution in the town centre. We are currently exploring how travel and emissions on Wandsworth High Street might be improved.
